24/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 24 September 2010, the European Commission authorised the setting up of a joint venture in the defence and security industry between EADS Deutschland GmbH (Germany), which is part of EADS (the Netherlands) and Brazil's OPIP (Odebrecht Plantas Industriais e Participaçoes S.A.), controlled by the Odebrecht S.A. conglomerate of Brazil. EADS is active in integrated satellite and defence systems and manufacturing military aircraft and telecoms equipment, while its German subsidiary specialises in integrated defence and security systems. OPIP provides engineering, civil engineering and industrial assembly services. The deal was examined using the simplified merger examination procedure. (F.G. trans fl)
