23/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 21 September, Jan Philipp Albrecht MEP (Greens/EFA, Germany) openly criticised the new draft mandates proposed this week by the Commission for transferring Passenger Name Record (PNR) data to the US, Canada and Australia. (EUROPE 10219). According to the MEP, the proposals do not sufficiently respect EU legislation on data protection and argued that, “Parliament clearly pointed out that the general transfer and storage of personal data, as well as an excessive retention period, was unacceptable”. Albrecht also underlined the fact that any data transferred must immediately be erased if there are no suspicions surrounding the person in question. Consequently, Albrecht is asking the Council of the EU to ensure respect for Parliament's red lines in this dossier. (B.C./transl.fl)
