30/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council is expected, from 9 August on, to extend the mandates of all EU special representatives (EUSR) with a decision in written procedure. The mandates of the special representatives - Erwan Fouéré (Macedonia), Kalman Mizsei (Moldova), Marc Otte (the Middle East), Peter Semneby (South Caucasus) and Peter Feith (Kosovo) - are to be extended by six months until the end of February 2011. Those of the special representatives Vygaudas Usackas (Afghanistan), Koen Vervaeke (African Union), Roeland van de Geer (Great Lakes Region), Pierre Morel (Central Asia and the crisis in Georgia), Valentin Intzko (Bosnia-Herzegovina) and Torben Brylle (Sudan) are to be extended by 12 months until 31 August 2011. Diplomatic sources have said that the length of extension for the mandates in no way prejudges the future of certain posts (i.e. whether or not they will be closed). Member states will continue discussion on the role of the EUSR in September. (A.By./transl.jl)
