Brussels, 16/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - Good news for consumers. According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), there are now fewer pesticide residues in food in the EU. EFSA's second annual report on the subject states that, in 2008, some 96.5% of samples of food tested fell within the authorised limits of pesticide residues for food products. Only 3.5% of the samples exceeded the EU's pesticide residue limits (compared with 4.2% in 2007).
