Brussels, 01/07/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 1 July, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced its decision to grant a €300 million loan to the company entrusted with the task of building the new hospital in Stockholm, Nya Karolinska Solna. In addition to improved healthcare access, closer collaboration between Nya Karolinska Solna and the Karolinska Institutet medical university contributes to EU objectives in the areas of education, research, development and innovation, the EIB states in a press release. Located along the interface of Solna and Stockholm municipalities, the project is an important part of the Karolinska-Norra station urban development, designed to create a world-class centre for medical science and innovation in Stockholm. As the EU's long-term financing institution, the EIB is by far the largest international financial institution in the Nordic and Baltic Region. For the Nya Karolinska Solna hospital project, which is a public private partnership (PPP) transaction, it is participating alongside the Nordic Investment Bank and commercial banks. (O.L./transl.jl)
