Brussels, 30/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - It is now possible to access information about inheritance and succession law in all 27 member states in all official EU languages from a new website - http://www.successions-europe.eu. It provides all the information needed to understand how successions operate. “This initiative is the first of its kind, responding to the willingness of the European institutions to contribute to better access to the rights of Euroepan citizens and responding to their needs in terms of legal certainty”, commented Roberto Barone, President of the Notaries of Europe (CNUE). Simple to use, the website provides the answers to frequently asked questions about any of the 27 EU member states, questions like: Who should I contact? Which law applies? In the absence of a will, who inherits and how much? How is a will drawn up and can I have it registered? How and when does one become an heir? How much tax do I have to pay on the succession? The website will be regularly updated to keep track with changes in EU and national legislation. In order to help lawyers dealing with cross-border inheritance issues, more detailed information is available in English, German and French on all EU member states. The website is the brainchild of Notaries of Europe, with the aid of the European Commission (see EUROPE 10169). (B.C./transl.fl)
