Prospect of raising European investor compensation scheme thresholds to €50,000

Brussels, 30/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - Michel Barnier, European Internal Market Commissioner, is to propose review of Directive 1997/9/EC on investor compensation schemes, probably on Monday 12 July. These schemes apply when an investment firm is not able to honour investors' claims. According to information we have received, the Commission is expected to suggest raising the minimum level of investor compensation from €20,000 to €50,000 over a period of three years.
