18/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has cleared the acquisition by Cathay Pacific Airways of a stake in Air China Cargo, currently wholly-owned by Air China. As a result, the two companies will have joint control in the air cargo company. Air China and Cathay Pacific are both present in air cargo transport between Europe and China (mainly to and from the Pearl River Delta region, which encompasses Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, in southern China), a Commission press release published on Friday 18 June states. Their combined market share on the routes concerned between Asia and the EEA is nonetheless limited as both companies operate largely complementary routes, the Commission underlines, also noting the presence of many other large international air companies on the same routes.
