EU enhances cooperation with Russia

Brussels, 31/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - The EU and Russia agreed last week to step up cooperation on terrorism, organised crime and drugs trafficking, and repeated their determination to reach an operational agreement as quickly as possible between Europol and Russia to ensure an appropriate level of protection for citizens' personal data. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in tackling terrorism, especially with regard to radicalisation, recruitment, financing and the protection of critical infrastructures. Application of the agreement on readmission of illegal immigrants between the EU and Russia was also discussed. It was agreed, too, to look in greater depth at migration issues, and specifically flow management, legal migration management, tackling illegal immigration, and integration. These were among the issues discussed at the 12th meeting of the EU-Russia Permanent Partnership Council on Freedom, Security and Justice, which took place in Kazan, in Russia. (B.C./transl.rt)
