Brussels, 27/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - Ambassadors from EU member states reached an agreement on Thursday 27 May, on a draft text to introduce new measures for guaranteeing European citizens access to translation and interpretation into their own languages as part of criminal legal proceedings (EUROPE 10114). The text was subject to a compromise between the Council, Commission and the rapporteur for the Parliament. The JHA Council is expected to approve the text on 4 June, after having set a deadline for its implementation, which is likely to be 36 months. A vote at the EP is expected at the end of June/beginning of July. For further information: http: //http://www.consilium.europa.eu/uedocs/cms_Data/docs/pressdata/en/jha/114674.pdf (B.C./transl.fl)
