Brussels, 27/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - A group of financial experts, including former ministers and bankers from the countries bordering both the northern (France and Spain) and southern (Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Turkey) shores of the Mediterranean and the vice-president of the EIB, acting in a personal capacity, has drafted an evaluation report on setting up a Euro-Mediterranean bank. The report, commissioned by French President Nicolas Sarkozy will be handed over officially to the Elysée on Friday 28 May. The overarching idea is to transform the FEMIP (Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership) into a subsidiary holding one third of the initial capital of the proposed bank. EUROPE will return to this issue in greater detail at a later date. (F.B./transl.rt)
