27/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - In a declaration published on Thursday 27 May, Catherine Ashton, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and EU Security Policy, welcomed on behalf of the EU, the fact that many different countries had been involved in the Council decision of February 2010 to extend by a further 12 months smart sanctions (Decision 2010/92/PEC) applicable to certain individuals and companies from Zimbabwe, together with restrictions on development cooperation between the EU and Zimbabwe (EUROPE 10083). The countries involved include EU candidate countries (Turkey, Croatia and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia), potential candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro), EFTA member countries from the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), as well as the Republic of Moldavia and Armenia. The declaration explains that these countries will ensure that their national policies conform to the decision of the Council. (A.N./transl.fl)
