27/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - Marek Belka, the former prime minister and minister of finance for Poland, is expected to hold the post of governor of the Polish National Bank (NBP). Belka, who was supported by Poland as a candidate to the presidency of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before withdrawing to the benefit of Dominique Strauss-Kahn of France, is currently director of the Europe Department at the IMF. He is said to have agreed to take over at the head of the Polish central bank and his appointment is expected to be endorsed by the Polish Diet next week. The former governor of the NBP, Slawomir Skrzpek, died on 10 April in the Smolensk air crash in which the Polish president also lost his life. (A.By./transl.jl)
