Brussels, 20/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 18 May, the European Parliament adopted by show of hands a resolution calling for more to be done in favour of young people. According to the text adopted, the European Union should promote non-formal education, combat youth unemployment and help young people with special needs. MEPs also recommend encouraging mobility and voluntary work among the young, and consider more attention should be paid to sex education and to promoting healthy lifestyles. Parliament wants young people to be involved in the formulation of youth policy and calls for member states to “provide support for local youth parliaments and councils”. A European youth pass should be devised so that young people can “gain access to cultural institutions throughout the EU at a very low charge”. (I.L./transl.jl)
