Brussels, 20/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 20 May, the European Commission published a manual of best practice on secure European truck parking. Publication of this handbook concludes the SETPOS pilot project (Secure European Truck Park Operational Services) launched in 2008 in response to the growing number of attacks and stealing against heavy goods vehicles in service. The handbook (http: //ec.europa.eu/transport/road/parking/parking_en.htm) aims to provide information to help truck park operators develop their sites in line with the required security standards. It also acts as a focal point for information for other stakeholders, such as transport operators, drivers, shippers and national authorities interested in developing truck parks. With a budget of nearly €11 million, SETPOS has also taken part in the development of four flagship secure truck parking areas on roads of the trans-European transport network (in Valenciennes in France, Wörnitz and Uhrsleben in Germany, and at Ashford in the United Kingdom). Finally, a web database of parking sites available along the main European roads has been developed (http://www.truckinform.eu ). (A.By./transl.jl)
