Freezing of funds of persons suspected of Islamic terrorist links does not apply to certain social security benefits paid to their spouses

Brussels, 03/05/2010 (Agence Europe) - The EU Court of Justice (EUCJ) issued a judgement on 29 April (Case C-340/08) regarding the interpretation of Regulation EC 881/2002 adopted by the EU Council of Ministers on 27 May 2002. The regulation is to give effect to certain resolutions of the United Nations, imposing the freezing of funds and other economic resources of persons associated with Osama bin Laden, the Al-Qaeda network of the Taliban and included in a list drawn up by the UN.
