Brussels, 29/04/2010 (Agence Europe) - Environmental organisation WWF, the EU Fish Processors Association, the EU Federation of National Organisations of Importers and Exporters of Fish and Eurocommerce, the distribution, wholesale and retail organisation, announced on Wednesday 28 April, that they would conduct a joint campaign for deep reform of the common fisheries policy (CFP). The organisations are calling for: - long-term management plans to be extended to all species of fish by 2015 (these plans would replace annual negotiation of fishing quotas by the Council); - a decentralised management system (so that local conditions can be taken into account); - maximising value from catch to consumer; - European fishermen having to comply with CFP principles wherever they may be fishing throughout the world.
