22/04/2010 (Agence Europe) - In the press release published after the 10th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting on Renewable Energy Sources (EUFORES), organised with the assistance of the Belgian parliament, in Madrid on 16 April, Claude Turmes (Greens, Luxembourg), Anni Podimata (S&D, Greece) and Fiona Hall (ALDE, UK), EURFORES President and Vice-Presidents respectively, call for a target of making the EU energy mix 100% renewable energy by 2050. “The presented scenarios clearly suggest that an energy mix of 100% renewable energy sources in 2050 is not a Utopia. Now it is up to us politicians on European, national and local levels to deliver the right policy instruments to assure an effective development of renewable energy sources markets,” Turmes said. “The cost of reaching 100% renewable energy by 2050 has been greatly exaggerated. In reality, it makes economic sense to invest heavily in renewable. This is where the new jobs will be created in all our member states,” Hall added. (E.H./transl.rt)
