Brussels, 26: 02/2010 (Agence Europe) - A situation of entente cordiale exists between Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström and Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Viviane Reding the latter announced on Friday 26 February, adding that the general public would not be treated to any battle between the two. "You won't be seeing any dispute, for the simple reason that we agree on how the issues of the citizens' security and rights should be dealt with", stressed Reding, after the meeting of the justice ministers of the EU, in Brussels. "The two of us speak very regularly and stand shoulder to shoulder. If one of us is chef de file on a dossier, she can make no progress unless the other agrees", she explained. She added that the proposal on Frontex (see EUROPE 10085) is a good example of this cooperation. "Guarantees for the citizens and fundamental rights have been included", she said. (B.C./transl.fl)
