THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/kososvo

17/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - At the second anniversary of Kosovo's independence on Wednesday 17 February, Ulrike Lunacek (Greens/EFA, Austria), called on the five member states of the EU that had not yet recognised the country (Cyprus, Spain, Greece, Slovakia and Romania) to do so. In a press statement Lunacek said that EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashtonshould personally get involved to ensure this”. Lunacek is the European Parliament rapporteur on Kosovo and stated that “the divided position of the Union is rendering a coherent European policy towards Kosovo, for example in the North of the country, almost impossible. According to the MEP, “in Pristina, Ashton should reinforce the clear commitment of the European Commission to visa liberalisation and encourage the Kosovan authorities, to implement quickly the technical preconditions for that”.
