01/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - European Commission and Indian negotiators met in New Delhi last week in the 8th round of talks on a free trade agreement between the EU and India. While the Commission still hopes to complete the agreement this year, there remain several stumbling blocks, in particular relating to the scale of and timetable for tariff liberalisation, with India wanting asymmetrical liberalisation, and also to the opening of public markets. India remains unwilling to discuss non-trade issues which the EU wants to include in the free trade agreement, in particular on climate policy and child labour (see outcome of EU-India Summit of November 2009 in EUROPE 10014).
