Maximum aflatoxin levels in certain nuts increased, much to chagrin of Italian producers

Brussels, 20/01/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 19 January, the EU Council of Ministers decided not to oppose the adoption of a regulation amending the maximum aflatoxin levels in certain foodstuffs. Unless the European Parliament opposed the regulation within three months, the European Commission will be able to adopt this text which, inter alia, increases permissible levels of aflatoxins in certain nuts.

Aflatoxins are toxins produced by mould belonging to certain kinds of Aspergillus...
