18/12/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 15 December, the European Commission approved a Polish regime aid to compensate Poczta Polska, the universal postal service provider in Poland, for net losses suffered due to fulfilling its public service obligations between 2006 and 2011. The Commission noted that this compensation mechanism was compatible with article 106, § 2 of the Treaty on the functioning of the European Union, subject to a number of conditions. Poland must now ensure that any substantial modification to the method used to calculate the costs for the purposes of establishing the level of compensation remains compatible with the accounting rules for the costs as stipulated in article 14 of the EU directive on postal services (97/67/EC).
