Adecco cleared to buy MPS Group

Brussels, 18/12/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 18 December, the European Commission authorised the plans of the Swiss group Adecco S.A. to buy the American MPS Group Inc. These businesses are active in the provision of employment services.

The Commission's investigation showed that overlaps between Adecco and MPS Group are limited in most Member States. The only notable overlap in their activities occurs in the field of temporary employment services in the IT, legal and financial sectors in the United Kingdom. Nonetheless, the planned purchase is unlikely to raise competition issues in these sectors, because the entity created by the merger will still be faced with strong competitors. The Commission therefore reached the conclusion that the planned operation will not pose any competition problems.

MPS Group is a provider of professional recruitment services, based in the United States, and concentrating its European activities on the United Kingdom market. Adecco is an international provider of recruitment and human resources services, particularly temporary recruitment, permanent recruitment, consultancy and outplacement services. (L.C./trans.fl)
