Brussels, 17/12/2009 (Agence Europe) - According to a report by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), presented on Thursday 17 December to representatives of the European Commission, relevant member state experts and national regulatory authorities in the electricity sector meeting within the Electricity Cross-Border Committee, electricity supplies this winter should not be disturbed in the EU under normal weather conditions. Nonetheless, although no special risk of shortage is expected this winter in normal conditions, the Commission reaffirms the importance of coordination between those managing the electricity transport network to ensure effective real-time coordination of European grid operations. “Uninterrupted service to citizens and industry and rational use of resources available can be ensured only with good cooperation between European electricity companies. Information exchange between grid operators is also essential. Improved coordination shall reduce the risk of blackouts and help protect European consumers”. (E.H./transl.jl)
