Brussels, 17/12/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 16 December, the Polish police announced that 54 people had been detained, suspected of collecting and diffusing child pornography on the internet. The arrests were part of a vast Europol-coordinated crackdown, AFP states. During the searches, police seized a total of over 100 computers and some 8,000 CDs and DVDs containing child pornography. The operations, which come within the framework of the project known as “Typhon”, have led to searches being made in 18 European countries and in Canada. Anyone found guilty in Poland of distributing child pornography or content of such nature is liable to eight years imprisonment. (B.C./transl.jl)
