Brussels, 17/12/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 17 December, the European Commission welcomed remedies put forward by the German energy company E.ON to facilitate competition on the German gas market to the benefit of private and industrial gas consumers, a press release reads. E.ON thus answers concerns expressed by the Commission that feared E.ON was violating European rules on abuse of dominant position. The Commission explains that E.ON undertakes to commit to a significant, structural reduction of its long-term gas capacity reservations which prevent access of competitors to infrastructure needed to supply gas to customers within E.ON's network. The Commission plans to consult market actors on E.ON's proposals before ending the antitrust investigation underway. The Commission will continue to conduct antitrust inquiries in the energy sector.
