04/12/2009 (Agence Europe) - The Permanent Representation of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU has, with reference to the speech during the ministerial debate on 2020 EU strategy, asked us to clear up an inaccuracy in our edition EUROPE 10030 of 30 November. It says: “Cyprus believes that the 2020 EU Strategy should lay emphasis on the social aspect of the strategy, in addition to the growth and jobs aspects. Towards this, Cyprus has submitted a written statement to be annexed to the Council conclusions, according to which Cyprus considers that there is a need for the revised post 2010 Lisbon Agenda to focus on strengthening the social dimension, in addition to increasing labour supply and employment. Furthermore, it calls on all the parties involved to ensure that the social dimension is given a primary role, in accordance with the provisions of the Treaty of Lisbon, and that it is reflected more distinctly in the Union's future actions, for example in EU papers and conclusions of the EU Council”.
