25/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 24 November, the European Commission authorised the proposed acquisition of the US company Cargill's animal nutrition business in Spain and Portugal by Dutch-based Nutreco. Nutreco, which is present in Spain where it produces and markets poultry meat and breeds and sells pigs to slaughterhouses, plans to acquire from Cargill assets and business related to the production and sale of animal compound feed for livestock and to the production and sale of industrial and prepared dry pet food in Spain and Portugal. The Commission's examination shows the relatively limited combined market position of the merging parties and the presence of a sufficient number of alternative suppliers after the deal.
