Commission wants to recruit more French interpreters

Brussels, 19/11/2009 (Agence Europe) - Faced with a serious shortage of French interpreters in the next five to ten years, the European Commission is raising awareness among young people of the benefits of a career in interpreting, exhibiting at the “Salon Européen de l'Education” in Paris on 19-22 November 2009. The stand covers all three EU interpreting departments (the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Court of Justice), providing students with information about careers and allowing them to try the Speech Repository digital interpreting tool that works in all the EU official languages. Along with their counterparts from the European Parliament and the Court of Justice, DG Interpreting at the European Commission has made a video for young French-speakers about working as an interpreter. The video (in French, “Interpréter pour l'Europe”) can be viewed on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrgdukWVaGE . (I.L./transl.fl)
