Publishers want innovative models to guarantee respect for copyright in digital economy

Brussels, 21/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - In response to the new communication on copyright in the digital economy, published on Monday by the European Commission (EUROPE 10001), the European Publishers Federation (EPF) points out the obligation of obtaining authorisation from those that have the right to put work on line and into, whether this is either available books or those that are out of print. The EPF affirmed that during her meeting with their board of directors in September, the Commissioner in charge of the media, Viviane Reding, made a commitment to not reforming copyright and would stick to its promises. The EPF is committed to cooperating with the new Commission and all stakeholders to “developing a more positive approach in an effort to develop more innovative and balance models”. In its communication, the Commission explains that it is seeking to develop widespread digitalisation in European series and in an effort to attain this goal, find a rapid solution on the question of copyright in out of stock or orphan works.
