05/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - In Paris on Friday 5 September, the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) proposed that an emergency debate on “the consequences of the war between Georgia and Russia” be held during the autumn session (in Strasbourg, 29 September- 3 October). The Bureau also decided to set up an ad hoc committee which will visit the two countries the week before the session to gather information on the current situation on the ground and prepare proposals for possible future action. The ad hoc committee will be made up of the two rapporteurs for Georgia from the follow-up committee - Mátyás Eörsi (Hungary, Chairman ALDE) and Kastriot Islami (Albania, SOC) - and the same committee's two rapporteurs for Russia - Luc Van den Brande (Belgium, President EPP-ED) and Theodoros Pangalos (Greece, SOC) - along with the Chairpersons of the Political Issues and Migration Committees and the three other Chairs of the policy group.
