Brussels, 05/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is delighted that Colombia has plumped for the DVB-T standard for digital television. This standard, part of the DVB family, has been developed in Europe and used by more than 120 countries so far in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia and Latin America. It provides a number of advantages including low cost decoders, televisions and broadcasting equipment and lower charges for manufacturers, which means it can be used to help greater numbers of people get access to interactive services. The European Commission is encouraging EU member states and the private sector to adopt a different standard from the DVB family, DVB-H, as the single EU standard for mobile television and added it to the list of EU standards in March 2008 to encourage the harmonised supply of e-communications services throughout the EU.
