THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/ind-dem

26/03/2008 (Agence Europe) - On 9 May this year, a symbolic date as it is also Europe Day, Jens-Peter Bonde will leave his post as MEP. Mr Bonde, of Danish nationality, has served as MEP since 1979 and is currently co-president of the IND-DEM Group. He now hopes to focus on his work as president of the pan-European movement called EUDemocrats. Hanne Dahl will occupy the current MEP seat that Jens-Peter Bonde is leaving. Ms Dahl, who is 37, is currently the leader of the June Movement, a eurosceptical political organisation co-founded by Mr Bonde after the referendum on the Treaty of Maastricht in June 1992 in Denmark. At the head of the EUDemocrats, Mr Bonde plans to promote the emergence of movements of this kind in other European countries in order to “have more seats for euro-critical lists working critically but constructively in the next European Parliament”, a press release dated Tuesday 25 March reads.
