21/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - On 15 January, the European Citizen Action Service (ECAS) published a report on the impact of Bulgaria and Romania's accession on the free movement of people. The 50 page document, written by Julianna Traser, was elaborated by the Greens/EFA Group, the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaus in Romania, and the Peaceful and United Europe association. In a press release, Tony Venables, ECAS director, said “this report ought finally to put to rest the myth of the Polish plumber”. At the end of the text, the report makes five recommendations: abolition of transition measures; creation of one-stop shops for immigrants; application of European and national law; better use of cohesion policy and EU Neighbourhood Policy for managing immigration; and creation of more studies and debates. The report was submitted to the meeting's discussion, chaired by Jean Lambert (Greens-EFA, United Kingdom) on 15 January in Strasbourg. (L.B.S)
