21/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - In her capacity as joint president of the European Cervical Cancer Association (ECCA), Françoise Grossetête, MEP (UMP, EPP-ED, France) is to officially launch the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week in Brussels on 22 January, a press release states. The Cervical Cancer Interest Group (CCIG) set up by the European Parliament on 31 May 2006, plans to extend and create a vast European policy network dedicated to the eradication of cervical cancer, with involvement from member states. A petition is foreseen in order to collect a maximum number of signatures for the petition against cervical cancer to increase knowledge of preventive measures. Each year in Europe, 50,000 women develop cervical cancer and some 25,000 die of cervical cancer. Still more important, the number of women living with cervical cancer (under treatment or not) at any given time amounts to over 175,000. (O.J.)
