21/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - Franco Frattini, European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Safety, began an official two-day visit to Israel on Monday 21 January. During his stay, Frattini will take part at a conference on combating xenophobia and anti-Semitism alongside Isaac Herzog, Israeli Minister of Welfare and Social Services, the Diaspora and the Fight against Anti-Semitism. He will also meet Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni durig the 8th Herzliya conference dedicated to Israel's security and stability in the Middle East. The commissioner is due to meet Israeli internal security and justice ministers to discuss counter-terrorism and tackling radicalisation, and the financing of public-private partnership on enhancing security. A meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert may also take place. No meeting with Palestinian officials is planned in the programme of the commissioner's visit. (B.C.)
