09/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 9 October, the EU Council of Ministers adopted its position on the Letter of Amendment Number 1 to the Preliminary Draft EU Budget for 2008. The Council agreed to provide extra EU funding to support stability and development in Kosovo (€120 million in commitment appropriations and €60 million in payment appropriations) and help the Palestinian Authority (€142 million in commitment appropriations and €85 million in payment appropriations). The Council refused to create a new budget article (to cover requests for damages and interest arising from legal proceedings against European Commission competition decisions). The Letter of Amendment now goes to the European Parliament for approval. (lc)
