09/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 9 October, the EU Council of Ministers adopted without debate decisions and credit payments allowing a total of €3.816 million to be made available from the 2007 budget in favour of 895 Peugeot-Citroën and Renault workers who, in France, lost their jobs after some sites were closed. These are the first amounts granted by the EU under the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (details in EUROPE 9469). In a declaration, the United Kingdom restates its criticism of the Fund, saying it “queries the use of EU funds to pursue policies that are the responsibility of member states and can be delivered more effectively at a national level”.
