11/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - On the sixth anniversary of the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, Security Commissioner Franco Frattini called on the EU not to “let down our guard” in the face of the terrorist threat which he still believes to be high. On Tuesday he noted in a press release that the EU was carrying out much work, notably with initiatives on radicalisation, bioterrorism and security of explosives and detonators. He also stressed another proposal that he intended to bring forward in November on blocking information circulating on the internet, especially with regard to bomb making. Mr Frattini also said that the EU had to combat terrorism through increased international cooperation. Technology was essential to tackle terrorism and, despite the difficulties met, it was absolutely “vital” that this fight be conducted respecting everyone's fundamental rights, he said. (bc)
