16/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of Great Lakes Chemical Corporation by Crompton Corporation, both producing polymer additives. The activities of Crompton and Great Lakes overlap in liquid and solid organophosphites (polymer additives) and, to a minor extent, in light stabilisers, but their business is largely complementary. Whereas Great Lakes has a strong position in solid organophosphites, Crompton has focused its business on liquid organophosphites. In addition, there has been market entry over the last years, especially from US and Asian producers, which ensures that the market will remain competitive, comments the Commission.
