Brussels, 17/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Council in Brussels reaffirmed the EU's commitment to fully implement its aid programme for Iraq. In the conclusions document, it hailed the adoption by the Council of 13 June of the operations plan for the integrated EU/JUST LEX rule of law mission whereby a training programme will be launched on 1 July for Iraqi judges, police and prison officers. The European Council welcomed the announcement of the Commission's plan to send a delegation to Baghdad in the near future. A few days ahead of the international conference on Iraq (scheduled in Brussels for 22 June), the European Council highlighted the importance of a leading role for the Iraqi government and an advisory and support role for the UN in the reconstruction process.
