08/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Conference of Presidents of the Political Groups at the European Parliament held discussions on Tuesday afternoon in Strasbourg, with President Barroso, on draft revision of the agreement on relations between the two institutions. It appears that an agreement has almost been reached on the last controversial points in the Commissioners' code of conduct: replacement of a Commission during his-her mandate. Barroso has provided sufficient guarantees to the Socialist group, which demanded hearings before appointments): procedures to follow when a member of the Commission has lost the EP's confidence (the president of the Commission has to request resignation of the person in question) and explain the reasons for the resignation to the EP; and rules for avoiding conflicts of interest.
