Rural development at centre of work

Brussels, 08/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - The plenary of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is meeting up on 9-10 March under the chairmanship of Anne-Marie Sigmund. The European Commissioner for Agriculture, Mariann Fischer Boel will be speaking in the context of the adoption of the recommendation for FEADER support for rural development”. The rapporteur is vice president of the Permanent Assembly of the Chambers of Agriculture, Gilbert Bross.

The committee will also be adopting a resolution on: improved implementation of the Lisbon strategy; two own initiatives, the new Member States and the Broad Economic Policy Guidelines (rapporteur: Harri Koulumies, director at the Federation of Services Industry, Finland) and on the role of the EIB on the private-public partnership (rapporteur: Philippe Levaux, president of the Mutual Insurance Company for building life-cycles and public works, France). Several recommendations will also be made on the social dimension of globalisation, youth programme in action 2007-13, the multiannual programme for companies and the sprit of enterprise, particularly SMEs.
