18/12/2001 (Agence Europe) - Parliament has adopted Portuguese Socialist MEP, Sergio Sousa Pinto's report. This report outlines three regulations that create a model type of visa uniform model document to which a visa will be attached by a Member State that does not recognise the individual's travel document and a uniform residence permit for third country nationals. Parliament recognises the necessity of adopting a joint policy on visas, immigration and residence. The EP stresses the need to attach the visas to a commonly recognised format, particularly for humanitarian reasons. Some EU Member States do not recognise certain third countries or the documents granted by these countries, whereas for strictly humanitarian reasons, it would be unacceptable for those coming from these countries to be unable to travel to the territory of the Member State which does not recognise their country.
