01/08/2001 (Agence Europe) - According to the latest estimates published Monday by Eurostat, the current account balance of the fifteen EU Member States with non-EU countries showed a deficit of 17.9 billion euros during the first quarter of 2001, compared to a deficit of 17.7 billion euros in the first quarter of 2000 and a deficit of 15 billion euros in the fourth quarter of 2000). The balance of trade in services showed a deficit of 3.8 billion euros (against 1.4 billion euros in the first quarter of 2000 and 3.2 billion euros in the fourth quarter of 2000). Eurostat points out that these data are provisional and that they will be revised at a later date.
