25/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Laeken Summit is expected to result in the adoption of poverty and social exclusion indicators in the EU. The European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) considers such indicators must reflect the results of policies on access to rights, income, employment, education and training, housing, health care and family life. Pending more sophisticated indicators, developed according to a participation method involving all persons concerned, the EAPN published, on 22 June, a non exhaustive list of indicators covering five areas: poverty, employment, education/training, health and housing/habitat. Some of these indicators are to be found among the structural indicators proposed by the European Commission, while others should result from the European inquiry on income and living conditions (SILC) to be launched from 2003. (EAPN proposals may be consulted on the site: http://www.eapn.org ).
