Brussels, 25/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - Following the EU-Turkey Association Council in Luxembourg on Tuesday, under the co-chair of Turkish Foreign minister Ismail Cem and his Swedish counterpart, Anna Lindh, the 47th meeting of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee, co-chaired by Daniel Cohn-Bendit and by Kurat Eserse, will be held in Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the participation of Mr. Cem.
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mesur Yilmaz has already had talks with the EP's Foreign Affairs Committee (see EUROPE of 22 June, p.6). In particular, he regarded the Conclusions of the Gothenburg Summit on enlargement as "promising and encouraging", had welcomed the fact that the European Council should have wished for the finalization of the single Framework-Regulation for Turkey by the end of the year. "Naturally, we would have preferred that more substance would have been given to Turkey's pre-accession strategy, but ewe are aware of the fact that the Council Conclusions must be quite short and could not go into the details", he said.
