07/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - In a letter addressed to the president of the European Parliament, Nicole Fontaine, Luxembourg MEP Robert Goebbels (PES) calls on the Bureau of the European Parliament to ensure that certain nationalities are not over-represented within EP delegations at the conciliation committee with the Council. Mr Goebbels notes that, during the conciliation committee last Tuesday on the Bids Directive (see EUROPE of 7 June, p.6), the parliamentary delegation comprised five British out of the thirteen parliamentarians present and the six States represented. "As if by chance, the five British MEPs, although from very different political formations, voted for the same political position", remarked Robert Goebbels. EUROPE recalls that, during the previous meeting of conciliation on bids, German MEPs were in the majority within the delegation, which allowed them to carry the vote against the compromise proposed by the European Commission.
