12/10/2000 (Agence Europe) - Speaking before the ACP-EU parliamentary Assembly as the honorary President, the British Conservative Lord Plumb (former President of the EP and former co-President of the joint Assembly) welcomed the fact that "parliamentary democracy has hatched from the former joint Assembly". He regretted the lack of interest that was shown towards this new Assembly, which is the only one unit gathering together the MPs from 91 countries. Recalling that he is also a farmer and that it is often the small farmers who are the voters for the Assembly's members, he invited the MPs not to forget those they represent within this Assembly.
